The Lookout

Little Haven, Pembrokeshire · sleeps 2 · 1 bedroom

A one-room-deep cottage on the Settlands hill between Little Haven and Broad Haven, arranged so that everything — bed, bath, sofa, little terrace — faces due west over St Brides Bay. The nightly sunset is the entertainment; the Swan Inn's sea wall is a four-minute walk down for the encore pint.

Log burner for storm nights, a two-seat terrace tucked out of the wind, and both Havens' beaches within ten minutes' walk (Little Haven's sands take dogs year-round; Broad Haven's main beach restricts them in season).

Why we recommend it

For a couples' weekend the west-facing view does the work of a five-star spa. Off-season storm-watching here, fire lit, is the county's most underrated luxury.
