"Sea view" is the most abused phrase in holiday lettings — sometimes it means a slice of grey on tiptoe from the box-room window. We grade it honestly. The stays on this page have a genuine, sit-down-and-look-at-it view of the water according to their own listing, and where we've curated the property we've said which rooms actually face it.
Which sea, and which way it faces. Pembrokeshire has coast on three sides, and the view is a different holiday on each. West-facing — St Brides Bay from Broad Haven, Little Haven and Druidston, the St Davids peninsula, the north coast at Newport and Poppit — gets the sunsets and the Atlantic weather; the best evenings in the county happen on those balconies. South-facing — Tenby's Esplanade looking at Caldey, Saundersfoot across Carmarthen Bay, Manorbier and Freshwater East — gets sheltered blue-water days and the warmest afternoons. The Haven — Dale, Milford Haven, Neyland — is a working waterway with tankers and yachts rather than surf, and some people prefer it.
Where the sea-view stock actually is. Tenby's Esplanade and the streets above South Beach are the county's densest run of sea-view apartments; Saundersfoot's Strand and the hill above the harbour are the next. Elsewhere it's individual houses — a converted farmhouse above Whitesands, a chalet at Freshwater East, the old coastguard cottages at St Ann's Head — and they book a year ahead for August. The best sea-view stays guide picks through them.
What to ask. "Sea view from the lounge" and "sea view from the master bedroom" are different promises; "sea glimpse" is honest and means what it says. If the view is the point of the trip, check the listing's room-by-room description — we quote it where we've curated — and look for a photograph taken from inside, not from the beach.
