Aberbach
Abermawr's little sister — a shingle-banked cove one headland north, shared mostly with oystercatchers.
Aberbach is what you find if you keep walking when everyone else stops at Abermawr: a smaller cove over the northern headland, pebble bank at the back, sand appearing as the tide drops, and very rarely another soul. The two coves share the same story — the shingle banks were thrown up by the great storm of 1859 — and the same peaceful, woods-behind-the-beach feel.
There are no facilities of any kind and the lane parking is a verge, not a car park, so come on foot along the Coast Path if you can (fifteen minutes from Abermawr). Swimming is possible on calm days over the sand at lower tides; the shingle shelves quickly. This is a beach for a flask and a book rather than a family encampment, which is exactly its point.
