When to visit Pembrokeshire

There is no bad month here, but there are twelve genuinely different ones. The two things that change what a trip is actually like are daylight and the seasonal beach rules, and both are knowable in advance rather than matters of opinion.

Daylight below is computed for the middle of each month at the centre of the county, using the standard solar algorithm — not fetched from anywhere, and accurate to about a minute. The dog column is the part people get caught by: between 1 May and 30 September a number of Pembrokeshire beaches restrict dogs, some entirely and some only on the bathing area. Outside that window those restrictions lift. Where a beach’s position is not something we have been able to confirm, the month pages say so rather than rounding it up.

We do not publish temperature or rainfall averages. We hold a live forecast feed, not a climate record, and a number invented to round out a sentence is worth less than nothing.

The short version

For a dog: October to April, when every beach is open. If you must come in summer, the beaches that stay open all year are listed on the dog-friendly page, and there are fewer of them than most sites imply.

For the sea: late August and September, when the water has had all summer to warm up and the schools have gone back.

For walking: May and June — long days, cliffs in flower, seabirds on the islands, and the Coast Path not yet baked hard or churned to mud.

For quiet: November to February. Accept that some things are shut, check opening hours before you drive anywhere specifically, and get the beaches to yourself.
