Pembrokeshire beaches for families

Every guide will tell you a beach is "great for families". Almost none tell you whether you can park, whether there's a toilet, and whether anyone is watching the water. Those three things decide the day.

So this page is mechanical rather than lyrical: the beaches below have lifeguard cover in season, a car park within half a mile, and toilets within half a mile. All three. That's a short list, and it's the honest one.

It also means some genuinely wonderful family beaches are missing — Barafundle is superb with older children and has none of the three. The list is a starting point for the day when you're doing it with a toddler, a wind break and a car full of gear, not a ranking of which beaches are nicest.

How this list was made: Beaches meeting all three tests: recorded RNLI seasonal lifeguard cover, a car park within 800 metres, and toilets within 800 metres. It is worked out from our own data every time this page is built, not maintained by hand — so it stays in step with the individual beach guides. 7 of the 45 beaches we cover qualify.
