Illustrated beach scene for Castlebeach Bay

Castlebeach Bay

A small wooded cove with a restored lime kiln, five minutes' walk from Dale towards St Ann's Head.

Castlebeach is Dale's nearest secret: follow the Coast Path south from the village for a few minutes and this small cove appears below, shingle and rock with sand towards low water, a stream, a beautifully restored lime kiln at its head, and trees down to the shore — a rarity on this coast. It faces into the sheltered waterway, so its water is often mirror-calm when the Atlantic side of the peninsula is heaving.

It suits the first or last swim of a Dale day, a quiet picnic away from the watersports bustle, or simply the turnaround point of an evening stroll. No facilities; everything is back in Dale. Continue south instead and Watwick Bay's white sand waits twenty minutes on — the two coves together are the peninsula's gentlest afternoon.
