The Griffin, Dale

The Griffin sits right on the waterfront at Dale, looking down the mouth of the Milford Haven waterway, and the sea wall outside doubles as its terrace — the pub calls it 'the longest bar in Pembrokeshire'. Simon and Siân have run it since 2010; the building has been a pub for around three centuries and is the only one left in the village.

The kitchen is built on the bay. Lobster and crab come from named local boats — the site credits Danny out of Little Haven and the LilyMay from Dale itself — oysters from Angle Bay, bread from a local bakery. A summer classics menu runs from Welsh lamb cawl (£15 when we checked, September 2026) through beef-and-stout pie and fish and chips to a local fillet steak, with half a lobster at £34 and a whole one at £68 on the seafood list. The chef, Simon, was named Pub Chef of the Year in 2021. On the bar: Bluestone Brewery ales from up the county and the pub's own Griffin Amber, plus Pembrokeshire gins.

Open daily noon to eleven, kitchen 12–2.30 and 5.30–8.30, no food Sunday evening. Booking is wise — the conservatory restaurant and rooftop terrace fill. Dogs are allowed in the small bar and on the roof terrace only, and there are just two bar tables, so ring ahead if you're bringing one. Park in the public car park as you enter the village; wardens patrol in summer. It's the natural end to the Dale peninsula walk, and Dale Beach is a two-minute walk.
