The hidden cove between Solva and Newgale — a fifteen-minute field walk keeps it nearly private.
Porthmynawyd is the cove for people who thought Pembrokeshire had no secrets left: an unsignposted valley path from the farm at Pointz Castle (a Norman motte hides in the trees) drops through fields and scrub to a west-facing cove that gets sand — good sand — from half-tide down, framed by dark rock with Dinas Fach headland to one side.
Because there is no car park, no sign and no facilities, even August afternoons here are measured in single figures of people. Check the tide (high water drowns the sand entirely), carry everything in and out, and treat the swim with the respect an unlifeguarded Atlantic cove deserves. The Coast Path connects it to Solva one way and Newgale the other, either of which makes a superb half-day with this as the private lunch stop.
