Lower Solva is one of the prettiest village scenes in Wales: a fjord-like inlet snakes inland between bracken hills, and a single street of colour-washed cottages, galleries and pubs runs down to the boats. At high tide the harbour brims — the classic hours for crabbing off the lower harbour wall — and at low tide children chase crabs across the mud while the boats lean over to rest.
Walk the Gribin ridge between harbour and sea for the classic view, drop to the Iron Age fort site, and carry on along the Coast Path to St Davids (one of the best short sections in the park). The village does small pleasures well — crab sandwiches, a pint outside the Harbour Inn or the Ship, woodfired pizza nights, and the kind of evening quiet that made you book a cottage in the first place. St Davids is ten minutes away for cathedral days and Whitesands surf.
