Neyland was Isambard Kingdom Brunel's pick for his transatlantic railway terminus, and his statue watches over the marina that now fills the old dock. It's a quiet spot: yachts, herons, the graceful sweep of the Cleddau Bridge overhead, and the Brunel cycle trail running along the old railway line to Johnston. For visitors it works as a sheltered, central base — Pembroke and its castle ten minutes over the bridge, Milford and Haverfordwest similar, and the upper Cleddau's wooded creeks (Lawrenny, Cresswell Quay — pint at the Cresselly Arms among the boats) close by for kayaking and quiet-water days.
