Saundersfoot grew up shipping anthracite; today its Victorian harbour shelters pleasure boats — and a wall of crabbing buckets around high tide — and its huge, gently-shelving beach is one of the safest family swims in the county. The village centre sits right behind the sand — cafés, ice cream, buckets and spades, a handful of good restaurants — so a beach day needs no logistics at all.
The coast here hides a lovely oddity: the walk to Wiseman's Bridge and on to Amroth passes through tunnels cut for the old coal tramway, a flat, pushchair-friendly stroll with the sea alongside. Coppet Hall beach, just north through the first tunnel, has parking and a strong café and takes summer overflow gracefully. Saundersfoot suits people who want Tenby's coast without Tenby's crowds — and it's ten minutes away when you do want the bigger town.
