The self-styled birthplace of Welsh golf — an 1888 club and James Braid links on Tenby's Burrows with sea views to Caldey, a two-Rosette restaurant in the rebuilt clubhouse and stay-and-play rooms on site.
Golf has been played on the Burrows south of Tenby since 1875 and the club was founded in 1888, which is why it styles itself the birthplace of Welsh golf and was a founding member of the Welsh Golfing Union. James Braid extended it to eighteen holes in 1907; it's been stretched to a par 72 since, and it still hosts national championships. The links runs through dunes designated a triple SSSI, with views over Carmarthen Bay to Caldey Island, and it drains as a proper links should — 'when it rains, it drains' is the club's own line.
Visitors are welcome. Summer green fees (May to October 2026) were £90 Monday to Thursday, £100 Friday and £110 at weekends, with juniors at £35; buggies £45 a round. Book a tee time online. A dress code applies — no denim or football shirts on the course.
The £1.7m clubhouse rebuild finished in 2023 and brought a restaurant, The Links, that picked up two AA Rosettes and a Michelin Guide entry in its first year: Sunday lunch was £32 for two courses when we checked (September 2026), booking essential, and there's no children's menu. The 19th Hole bar is open to the public daily from eleven. Stay-and-play packages pair a night in the Dormy House or the four-star Dunes rooms with a round, from £165 a head in summer. No dogs in the clubhouse, on the course or in the rooms. Tenby South Beach runs alongside the links.
A serious links round on holiday; Sunday lunch with a view of Caldey; a golfing weekend without driving anywhere.
