Coasteering was invented here, at St Davids, and the county is still the best place in Britain to do it. Around that sits the rest: surfing at Newgale, Freshwater West, Whitesands and Manorbier; sea kayaking around Ramsey and Skomer; sailing out of Neyland, Milford Haven and Dale; riding on the beaches at Nolton and Druidston; and coast-facing golf at Tenby, Newport and Milford Haven.

Two things matter more here than almost anywhere else on the British coast. The tides in the Milford Haven waterway and around the islands are among the strongest in the UK — Ramsey Sound in particular is not a place to freelance. And the weather window is short in either direction, so book activities with slack in the schedule rather than on the one day you need them.
