Pembrokeshire in January
Mid-January in Pembrokeshire: sunrise around 08:21, sunset around 16:38, giving about 8h 17m of daylight. The evenings have already started to stretch, even if it does not feel like it yet. Because the county sticks so far west into the Atlantic, the sun sets noticeably later here than in London — worth knowing if you are planning an evening on a west-facing beach.
Dogs: the seasonal window is shut. The 1 May – 30 September restrictions do not apply in January, so the 15 beaches that restrict dogs in summer are open to them now. That includes the ones you cannot take a dog to in August — Broad Haven, Caerfai Bay, Coppet Hall, Freshwater East and 11 more. This is the honest reason to come out of season with a dog.
This is the quiet end of the year. Some seasonal cafés, boat operators and attractions close or drop to weekends, so check before you drive somewhere specifically — our place pages carry opening hours where we hold them, and say so plainly where we do not. What stays open is the coast itself, and it is arguably better: empty beaches, big weather, and the Coast Path to yourself. Bring boots that cope with mud, and remember the light goes early.
Lifeguards. The 8 lifeguarded beaches are patrolled seasonally, and January sits outside the usual season. Treat every beach in the county as unpatrolled this month. In an emergency anywhere near the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
Beaches and dogs in January
The 1 May – 30 September window does not apply in January, so the beaches that restrict dogs in summer are open to them now. Where we have not been able to confirm a beach either way, we say so rather than assuming.

Grouped this finely because the underlying information genuinely has these states — a beach we have confirmed as restricted and a beach where a restriction merely might apply are different answers, and flattening them into one number would look more authoritative while being less true. If a sign on the day says otherwise, the sign wins.
