Illustrated beach scene for Newgale Sands

Newgale Sands

Two miles of open sand and learner-friendly surf behind a great pebble bank — St Brides Bay's big beach.

Newgale is pure scale: two miles of sand facing the full fetch of St Brides Bay, backed by a storm-built pebble ridge. It's the county's best beginner surf beach — schools and hire on site, consistent whitewater, lifeguarded zones in season — and at low tide the sand seems endless. The central section restricts dogs in season but the southern end stays year-round dog-friendly. Cafés and the Duke of Edinburgh inn sit behind the pebbles. It's a beach for big days out rather than sheltered toddler paddling — when the wind is up, go to Saundersfoot instead; when you want space and waves, come here.
