Solva's harbourside local — outside tables by the boats at high tide.
Solva Harbour Beach
The drying harbour at the head of Solva's ria — boats on the mud, crabbing off the wall, sand at low water.
Solva's harbour empties twice a day, and that is when its beach appears: firm sand and shingle up the sheltered creek, boats leaning on their keels, children crabbing from the harbour wall while parents occupy the pubs and galleries of one of Pembrokeshire's prettiest villages. It is less a destination beach than the centrepiece of a perfect village afternoon.
The one walk everyone should take climbs the Gribin, the ridge between the harbour and the sea, for the postcard view down the ria — twenty minutes up, Iron Age fort on top. At the harbour mouth below lies the small shingle cove of Gwadn. High tide transforms the harbour again: deep green water, paddleboards replacing the crabbing lines. Parking is the big car park at the harbour head, and everything in Lower Solva is two minutes flat.
