Narberth has become Pembrokeshire's food town by accident and then on purpose. A steep, colourful high street of independent shops — a proper butcher, a fishmonger, delis, a bakery, a cheese counter, a good bookshop and more galleries than a town this size has any business supporting. The festival is that concentrated into a weekend.
What is there. Stalls from Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire producers: cheese, charcuterie, shellfish, laverbread, cider, gin, chocolate, bread. Cookery demonstrations from chefs working in the area, tastings, talks, and events run by the town's own shops and restaurants.
Buy things you cannot get at home. Welsh farmhouse cheeses, sewin when it is in, salt marsh lamb, Pembrokeshire early potatoes if the season is odd enough, cockles and laver from the Burry and the local shore.
The honest bit. Narberth is a small town on a hill with a handful of small car parks, and on festival weekend it is completely full. Use the park and ride if it runs, or park at the edge and walk up. The high street is steep and cobbled in places, which matters if you have a buggy or limited mobility.
Making a weekend of it. Narberth is central — twenty minutes to Tenby, twenty-five to the coast at Amroth, fifteen to Carew. It is a good base in its own right, with the county's best concentration of places to eat within walking distance of a bed.
