Narberth is the county's inland surprise — a small hilltop market town whose high street of Georgian and Victorian frontages hosts an improbable concentration of good things: independent food shops and delis, galleries, boutiques, a Michelin-calibre restaurant scene for a town this size, and a proper community feel year-round. In Welsh myth it's Arberth, a chief court of the Mabinogion; today the town hall clocktower presides over the county's best shopping street.
As a base it works for people who want dinner options and life on the doorstep with the coast twenty minutes away — Tenby, Saundersfoot and Amroth south, the Preselis north. It's also the wet-weather capital: Folly Farm (one of Wales's best family attractions) is minutes away, and Bluestone's Blue Lagoon waterpark is close.
