Caldey Island Boats

The short seasonal crossing from Tenby harbour to Caldey Island — monks, chocolate and quiet beaches twenty minutes offshore.

Caldey is the island you can actually do on a whim: boats shuttle from Tenby harbour (or Castle Beach slipway at lower tides) through the season, the crossing takes around twenty minutes, and no advance ticket scramble applies — you buy at the kiosk on the harbour and queue for the next boat.

The island is home to a working Cistercian monastery; the monks' chocolate and famous lavender perfume fund the place, and the village, lighthouse walk and Priory Bay's white sand fill an unhurried half-day. Note the island's own rhythms: crossings are seasonal and typically don't run on Sundays, and dogs and drones come under island rules — check the day's sailings at the harbour kiosk or Caldey's site before building plans on it.

The full story — abbey, history, what to see — is in our Caldey Island guide.

Best for

The easiest island day in Wales; Tenby weeks that need one boat trip.

Why this one might suit you

It is a few minutes' walk from Tenby Harbour Beach, and it sits at the start or finish of one of our walks.

Assembled from what we can evidence — hygiene ratings, measured distances and the venue's own listed details — not from a visit. We haven't eaten here, and we don't pretend to have.
