The Bishops

22-23 Goat Street, St Davids, SA62 6SL

St Davids' pub on the square — an eighteenth-century building with a big beer garden looking out to Carn Llidi and the cathedral, fresh fish on the specials and food every day of the year bar Christmas.

Hygiene 4/5Food Standards Agency, inspected 16 September 2025 · official record

The Bishops stands opposite the cross in the middle of St Davids, and its own account has it dating from the eighteenth century and prominent in the city ever since. Inside is a wooden bar and a fireplace; the draw in summer is the large beer garden at the back, with views across to Carn Llidi and the cathedral tower.

The menu leans Welsh and seasonal, with the pub promising fresh fish among the specials most days and, in season, local lobster, crab and mackerel as the boats allow. Food is served noon to three and 5.30 to 9.30, seven days a week, every day of the year except Christmas Day — useful knowledge in a small city where kitchens close early out of season. The pub itself opens at 10.30 in the morning.

Dogs are allowed in the wooden bar area only. Families are welcome. Book by phone or through the online system on their site; a pub this central fills in August. Parking is on the city's public car parks nearby.

Best for

A reliable dinner in St Davids when other kitchens have shut; the beer garden on a clear evening; fish on the board.

Why this one might suit you

Dogs are welcome, Caerfai Bay is within a mile, there's somewhere to sit outside and it's set up for families.

Assembled from what we can evidence — hygiene ratings, measured distances and the venue's own listed details — not from a visit. We haven't eaten here, and we don't pretend to have.
