Tenby with a dog is entirely doable — you just need the map in your head. In season (1 May–30 September) the postcard beaches, Castle Beach and North Beach's main sweep, are off-limits to dogs; the saving grace is South Beach's southern stretch towards Giltar Point, which welcomes dogs all year and is arguably the best walking sand in town anyway. Out of season, everything opens up.
The practical Tenby dog base is therefore the South Beach/Esplanade end of town, or the lanes towards Penally — from there you're on year-round sand in minutes and can still walk into the walled town for lunch (several pubs and cafés are dog-friendly; look for the water bowls on St Julian's Street). The Coast Path towards Giltar and Lydstep gives the big morning walk, and Amroth's dog-friendly end is fifteen minutes' drive when you want a change. The stays below all accept dogs, with numbers and any provider conditions stated on each listing.
Tenby's dog restrictions run 1 May to 30 September on Castle Beach, Harbour Beach and the town end of North Beach. South Beach is the exception: the long southern stretch towards Giltar Point takes dogs all year, and the wooden walkway across the sand makes it the easiest beach in town to reach with a pushchair as well as a lead. Lifeguards patrol South Beach daily from late May to early September (10am–6pm), so a dog off the lead needs to stay clear of the flagged swim zone. Out of season every beach opens up, and a February low tide on North Beach with the town to yourself is one of the county's quiet pleasures. The Esplanade end of town and the lanes towards Penally put you on year-round sand in minutes. Kingfisher Cottage in Penally looks across the golf course to Giltar Point and reaches Tenby along the beach in under a mile; Kiwi Cottage is a car-free base 0.2 miles from the shops with an enclosed patio; Ar Lan y Mor takes two dogs and eight people in the old streets, with the honest caveat that it has no outside space; and Blue Sky, half a mile from the walls, has a gated, fully enclosed lawn and no children.
