Freshwater East curves between two headlands, its wide sands backed by a rare dune system managed as a nature reserve. It's a calm, low-key family beach — sandcastles, safe paddling on a rising tide, kayaks off the slip — without a resort behind it: just a scatter of houses in the trees, a pub up the hill and the Coast Path running through.
Its trump card is position. Walk the Coast Path west and within an hour and a half you reach Stackpole Quay and then Barafundle Bay, the beach everyone photographs; drive ten minutes and you're at Bosherston's lily ponds or Manorbier's castle; Tenby is fifteen minutes east. A cottage here buys peace with everything close.
