Church Doors Cove
The gothic rock arch next to Skrinkle Haven — a tiny cove framed by one of the most photographed formations in the county.
Church Doors takes its name from the towering pointed arch cut clean through its sandstone headland — stand under it and the resemblance to a cathedral doorway is unmistakable. The cove itself is a pocket of sand and rock pools reached by a long, steep flight of steps from the clifftop near Manorbier YHA; its neighbour Skrinkle Haven lies through the arch and around the rocks, connectable only at the lowest tides.
Time it wrong and there is no beach at all, so check tide times before committing to the steps. What you get in exchange: red-gold cliffs, extraordinary geology, clear water, and light in the arch that photographers plan whole days around. No facilities; car park and toilets up at the YHA. Watch children closely — the tide fills this cove quickly and the steps are the only way out.
