Luxury stays in Pembrokeshire

"Luxury" on a cottage listing can mean a hot tub on a farm or a glass wall over the Atlantic, and the word is used for both. This page lists the stays that carry the tag in the provider's own listing; the luxury stays guide explains how to tell which kind you're looking at, and this is the short version.

What earns it. A view you'd pay for on its own. Rooms sized for the people, not the headcount — a house that "sleeps 12" with two bathrooms is not luxury, whatever the furniture cost. A kitchen someone would actually cook in. Privacy: your own garden and your own tub, not a share. Heating that works in January, which in a converted barn is not a given. And the small honest things listings mention when they have them: underfloor heating, a proper bath as well as a shower, linen supplied, a welcome hamper, a wood store that's full.

Where the high-end stays cluster. Tenby's Esplanade apartments with the Caldey view; the St Davids peninsula's architect-designed houses above Whitesands and Caerfai; Newport's restored townhouses and the houses on the Parrog; the country around Narberth and the Cleddau estates; the big houses near Barafundle and out at Penally. The hotel alternative — the Grove of Narberth, Twr y Felin, Warpool Court, St Brides Spa Hotel, Penally Abbey — does luxury with less admin for a weekend.
