Blackpool Mill

A landmark 1813 water mill on the Eastern Cleddau, rescued and reopened in 2023 as a heritage dining destination — worth the visit for the building alone.

Blackpool Mill is one of the handsomest industrial buildings in Wales: a four-storey stone corn mill of 1813 standing over the Eastern Cleddau where the tidal river meets the woods, complete with its wheel and machinery. After decades derelict it was restored by neighbouring Bluestone and reopened in 2023 as a heritage restaurant and café — a £3m rescue that kept the works on show, so lunch comes with the gearing and millstones around you.

You don't need to be staying anywhere in particular: it operates as a destination restaurant open to the public (booking wise at weekends — details on the operator's site). The setting is the other half of the attraction, with the Slebech woods and riverbank walks on the doorstep and the millpond stretch of the Cleddau as calm as the county gets.

Ten minutes from Narberth and five from Oakwood and Picton Castle — the inland day, done properly.

Best for

A striking lunch stop between Narberth and the Cleddau woods; mill and machinery admirers.
