Tenby has four beaches inside a mile and a walled town between them, so "near the beach" means choosing an end. North Beach (the postcard one, Goscar Rock, the pastel terraces) is reached from the town's northern streets and the Croft; South Beach (the big one, 1.5 miles of dune-backed sand towards Giltar Point) from the Esplanade and the streets behind it; Castle and Harbour beaches from inside the walls. The stays below are the ones whose own listings put the sand within a walk — the distance is on each card — and we've said which beach.
The reason to walk rather than drive is money as much as convenience. The North Beach car park charges all year (£5 for 24 hours in 2026, £25 a week), the harbour has 21 spaces and fills first, and South Beach's 102 spaces overflow to Salterns on an August Saturday — our driving and parking guide has the tariffs. A flat inside the walls removes the daily hunt entirely.
Families with small children tend to want the Harbour Beach end — the gentlest ramp in Tenby (1:18) and a sheltered pool of a beach — or South Beach, where the RNLI patrol runs longest (weekends from early April, daily from late May to 6 September) and a wooden walkway crosses the soft sand. Somerville, a six-bedroom Edwardian house, has North Beach 200 metres one way and South Beach 300 the other; Beach House Tenby is 160 metres from the South Beach esplanade with a car park 50 metres away; Apartment on the Mews is inside the walls with North Beach under 300 metres. Couples wanting the harbour itself have Harbourside in the Blue House on Harbour Beach and Ty Olwen above a pub with everything within 100 metres.
