Butchers, bakers and fishmongers in Pembrokeshire

Narberth is the surprise here. For a small market town it has a genuinely good run of independent food shops along one high street — butchers, a bakery, delis — and it's the single best place in the county to fill a car boot before a self-catering week.

Tenby's old town holds its own, and there are village butchers scattered across the county that have been in the same family for generations. Fish is more complicated than visitors expect: this is a fishing coast, but most of the catch goes to market rather than to a local counter, so a fishmonger is a find rather than a given.
