Hotels in Narberth: The Grove, Plas Hyfred and the Beds Within Fifteen Minutes
Narberth has one country-house hotel outside it, one small hotel in it, and a High Street of guest rooms. What each is, what's within a quarter of an hour, and the cottages and lodges people book instead.
By Pembrokeshire Guide editors · Updated 27 September 2026
Search for hotels in Narberth and you'll be shown a long list, because Booking.com's Narberth search sweeps in half of south Pembrokeshire. The truth is shorter and more useful. Narberth is a small market town whose reputation rests on its food and its independent shops, and it has exactly two hotels — one famous, one modest — plus a High Street of guest rooms and, within fifteen minutes' drive, an estate hotel on the river, a lodge resort in the woods and a spa hotel by the sea. Here is what each is, from open data and the venues' own descriptions. We haven't stayed in any of them and we don't score them.
The Grove of Narberth
A mile or so south of the town, the Grove of Narberth is a country house in its own grounds and the hotel that put Narberth on the food map. Its restaurant, the Fernery, is the county's special-occasion address. It's the honest answer to "the nicest hotel near Narberth" and it prices accordingly; the map files it under Templeton by distance, which is why you won't find it on the Narberth hotel list but will on Templeton's.
Plas Hyfred
In the town, on Moorfield Road, Plas Hyfred is the hotel with a restaurant of the same name — the one to book if you want to walk to the High Street's shops, pubs and restaurants and back without the car. The town car park fills on food-festival weekend in September; otherwise parking is easier than in the seaside towns.
The High Street's guest rooms
Narberth's other beds are above and behind the shops: Top Joe's Townhouse, Max and Caroline's on St James Street, the Star, the Sycamores. These are the rooms for a weekend built around the restaurants — Annwn, the tasting-menu place, among them — and the full guest-house list has the rest. Booking.com's search is the quickest way to see which of them have a room on your dates.

Within fifteen minutes
Slebech Park. Slebech Park is the estate hotel on the Cleddau estuary at Canaston Bridge, ten minutes west, where the A40 crosses the river.
Bluestone. In Canaston Wood next door, Bluestone is the free-roam lodge resort with the water park — a different holiday from a hotel, car-free once you arrive, everything on site. It's covered on the Narberth page, where its partner link lives.
Canaston Oaks. Canaston Oaks is the B&B at the bridge, with a small caravan site alongside.
The coast. St Brides Spa Hotel at Saundersfoot, the one most people mean by "the spa hotel in Pembrokeshire", is fifteen to twenty minutes south; the Tenby seafront hotels twenty minutes. Lamphey Hall, the country option outside Pembroke, is about the same.
What people book instead
Most visitors to Narberth rent rather than check in, and the town's real strength is the cottages and lodges around it. We've hand-picked a good number: a three-bedroom cottage within walking distance of the High Street's pubs and restaurants; a two-bedroom house in town with zip-and-link beds and EV charging; the cottages on a working farm two miles out with a shared hot tub booked in time slots (the listing says so, and so do we); the fishery cottages by the lakes with free fishing for guests; and the woodland lodges with hot tubs a mile from town that come to us through Hoseasons. The nearest are below, and the full set is on the Narberth page.

Why Narberth, if not for the sea
Narberth's case is the map. Tenby and Saundersfoot are twenty minutes; Barafundle and the Stackpole coast about thirty; the Preseli hills the same the other way; St Davids an hour. On a wet day you're in a town with things in it. And it has a station on the Pembroke Dock line, a mile from the centre, which makes a car-free weekend here more realistic than most of the county — see getting around without a car. Our where to stay in Narberth guide goes through the town and the country around it area by area.
The honest bit
Two hotels, a street of guest rooms, and a handful of good places within a quarter of an hour: that's the real list, and it doesn't change according to who pays us. The Booking.com search above is a paid link, labelled as one; the cottages and lodges are written up from the providers' own listings and ordered by distance, not by commission.
