Where to Stay in Newport (Pembrokeshire): Town, Parrog or the Hills
The little north-coast town under Carn Ingli: East Street's restaurants with rooms, the Parrog and the sands, campsites on the estuary, and the Gwaun Valley behind. Not the other Newport.

First, the disambiguation: this is Newport in Pembrokeshire — Trefdraeth — the small town under Carn Ingli on the north coast, not the city in Gwent. Booking sites mix them up constantly. If a listing mentions the M4, it's the wrong one.
The right one is a single main street, a castle you can't visit, a mountain you can, and an estuary with a beach on each side. It has become the county's quiet-money village — good restaurants, galleries, restored houses — without losing the feel of somewhere people actually live. Everything we hold a record for is on the Newport stay lists: B&Bs, hostels, campsites. Here is the shape of it.
East Street and the town
Newport's main street runs east–west with the castle above it and the shops, pubs and restaurants along it. East Street is where the county's reputation for restaurants-with-rooms was made: Llys Meddyg and Cnapan are both places to eat first and sleep second, and Newport Gate is the guest house beside them. Ty Bert on Lower St Mary's Street is the town's bunkhouse. The Castle Inn is the pub in the middle.
Stay here and you walk to dinner, to the Parrog in ten minutes, and to the start of the Carn Ingli climb from the top of the town. Parking is on-street or in the small car parks and is fine outside August.
The Parrog and the sands
The Parrog is the old harbour on the south side of the estuary, a row of houses on the quay with Newport Parrog beach in front at low tide. Tycanol Farm and Morawelon campsites are on the lanes behind it, with the Conifers sites a little further back. Across the water — a walk round by the iron bridge, or a wade at low tide if you know what you're doing — is Newport Sands, the big beach, with the golf course and the Newport Sands Hotel on Golf Course Road and Newport Bay caravan park above.
Best for campers and anyone who wants the beach on foot. The Coast Path runs east from here along Ceibwr Bay and west to Fishguard.
Nevern, the Gwaun Valley and Dinas
Two miles east, Nevern has the Trewern Arms on the river and the church with the bleeding yew, and Llwyngwair Manor sits between the two with a caravan park in its grounds. The Salutation Inn at Felindre Farchog is the inn with rooms on the Cardigan road, and Pentre Ifan — the county's great burial chamber — is up the lane above it. South of the town the Gwaun Valley is the deep wooded cleft that still keeps the old calendar; Gellifawr at Pontfaen is the country-house hotel in it and the woodland walk is the reason to go. West, Dinas Cross has the Dinas Island campsite on the neck of the headland between Pwllgwaelod and Cwm-yr-Eglwys — the circular walk round it is one of the best short ones in the county.
Carn Ingli
The mountain above the town is the point of Newport for a lot of people: an hour up from the top of the street to the Iron Age fort on the summit and a view of the whole north coast. The circular from the town is on our walks pages. In the Preselis behind it, the bluestone guide covers the rest.
Getting here
The T5 bus between Haverfordwest, Fishguard and Cardigan stops on the main street and is the only public transport; the nearest station is Fishguard, seven miles. Newport is a car place in practice — see getting around without a car for what's realistic.
The honest bit
We haven't stayed in these places and don't rate them. The lists come from open data with websites where the map has them; the campsites are seasonal. For a hotel or B&B on your dates, the Booking.com search on the Newport hotel list is a paid link and is labelled — and it does know which Newport it is, because we send it "Newport, Pembrokeshire".
