Pembrokeshire beaches you can get onto without steps
"Accessible" on a tourism website usually means somebody looked at a beach and formed an impression. That is no use at all if you are pushing a chair, walking with a stick, or wrangling a pram, because the thing that decides whether you get onto the sand is the gradient and how long it goes on for.
So this page gives you the survey figures instead. Every beach below has a route onto the sand without steps, and each one's page states the actual slope — Tenby Harbour is 1:18 easing to 1:12 over 19 metres, which is genuinely gentle; Whitesands is 1:5 over 17 metres, which is short but very steep indeed. Both are "step-free". They are not remotely the same experience.
A few honest caveats. A ramp gets you to the top of the sand, not across it — soft dry sand defeats most ordinary wheelchairs, which is where the free beach wheelchairs come in. Gradients change when winter storms move the sand. And a beach with no entry here isn't necessarily impossible, only unsurveyed.
How this list was made: Beaches with a step-free route onto the sand recorded in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority's Easy Access Beaches survey, with that survey's own gradient and length figures shown on each beach page. It is worked out from our own data every time this page is built, not maintained by hand — so it stays in step with the individual beach guides. 22 of the 64 beaches we cover qualify.
