Quiet village behind one of Britain's most beautiful beaches — Marloes Sands — and the boat to Skomer's puffins.
Marloes is a one-street farming village that happens to hold the keys to two of Pembrokeshire's crown jewels. Fifteen minutes' walk south lies Marloes Sands — a vast, cliff-backed sweep of sand and folded rock strata (Three Chimneys) that regularly makes best-beach lists and stays uncrowded because every visitor must walk in. Ten minutes west is Martin's Haven, where the Skomer boats leave: puffins by the thousand from April to July, and one of Europe's great seabird islands.
The village keeps a good pub (the Lobster Pot) and a clocktower, and that's about it — which is the point. Come for big empty sands, coast path days around the Deer Park headland (seals below in autumn), dark skies, and the puffin boat with no morning drive. Dogs are welcome on Marloes Sands all year.
