Where to Stay in Marloes: The Village Behind Marloes Sands
One street, one pub, and Marloes Sands a mile and a half down the lane. Where the beds are on the Marloes peninsula, how far the Skomer boats are, and what a stay here is actually like.
By Pembrokeshire Guide editors · Updated 27 September 2026
Marloes is a single street of houses at the neck of a peninsula, with a pub, a café, a shop and not much else — and that's the appeal. A mile and a half down the lane is Marloes Sands, the beach a lot of regulars will tell you is the most beautiful in Wales; two miles further on is Martin's Haven, where the boats leave for Skomer and its puffins. Nothing here is built for tourists except the National Trust car parks. You come for the walking, the wildlife and the beach, and you eat at the Lobster Pot or cook.
The village
Marloes itself is where the shop, the pub and the café are, and the one place you can stay and walk to all three. The Clock House in the village is the B&B, with its café-bar downstairs; the Lobster Pot Inn is the pub. From the village the beach is a mile and a half on foot down the lane past the National Trust car park, and the Marloes peninsula circular — Sands, Deer Park, Martin's Haven, Musselwick and back — starts and finishes at the door.
One of the cottages we've hand-picked in the village is a period house half a mile from the shop and pub, with a wood burner, a double and a twin, a big garden with a BBQ that the listing says isn't fully enclosed at the back — so a dog needs a lead — and parking for one. Marloes Sands 1.5 miles on foot, Martin's Haven 2.3, Dale 2.5 for the sailing.

The farms on the peninsula
Most of the beds around Marloes are on the farms rather than in the street: cottage groups on the holdings between the village and the coast, and two campsites, Foxdale and West Hook Farm, on the lanes towards the Sands. Musselwick Farm is five conversions on a working 232-acre arable farm half a mile north of the village and above the coast. The Cornstore gives six people three bedrooms and three bathrooms and takes two dogs; The Millhouse sleeps twelve and has a hot tub, sea views and an electric car charger, which is a combination genuinely hard to find on this peninsula. In the village itself, Collingwood is a double, a twin and an oil Aga for a couple with a dog, and Goslings gives four people three bedrooms, a king, a double and a single — though it takes no dogs and parks one car. The East Hook cottages are on the Marloes page as listings; their own site carries the detail we can't. When we've read the listings properly they'll join the picks above.
St Ishmaels and Dale: three miles back
If the peninsula's cottages are full, look one village back. St Ishmaels, three miles east, has the Brook Inn and its own quiet Haven beaches — Lindsway Bay, Monk Haven, Sandy Haven — and two houses we've hand-picked there put Marloes Sands at four and a half miles. Dale, the watersports village, is two and a half miles south of Marloes across the neck of the peninsula and has the Griffin on its sea wall.
Hotels and B&Bs
There's no hotel on the peninsula. The Clock House is the B&B in Marloes, Allenbrook is the guest house in Dale, and Booking.com's Marloes search found a dozen places when we checked in September 2026 — enough to be worth a look for your dates, small enough that you shouldn't expect a choice of hotels. Milford Haven, nine miles, has the county's biggest hotel on Nelson Quay.

The beaches, honestly
Marloes Sands is a ten-to-fifteen-minute walk from the National Trust car park with nothing at the beach — no café, no toilets, no lifeguard — and nearly a mile of sand and folded rock when you get there. Dogs are welcome all year. Musselwick Sands, on the north side, is the locals' alternative when the wind is in the south, a fifteen-minute field walk with a real risk of being cut off by the tide. Martin's Haven is a shingle slipway for the Skomer boats, seals included. St Brides Haven, at the start of the peninsula, is the sheltered snorkelling cove by the Norman church.
Without a car
The Puffin Shuttle, the summer coastal bus, runs the St Brides Bay coast from St Davids down through Solva, Newgale, Broad Haven and Little Haven towards Marloes and Dale, which makes the Broad Haven to St Brides Haven and St Brides Haven to Dale sections walkable one way. Outside the season, a car.
The honest bit
We haven't stayed in these places and we don't score them. The cottages we recommend are written up from the provider's own listing and nothing else; the campsites, pub and B&B are from open data with websites where the map has them. The Booking.com search is a paid link, labelled as one. Our Dale guide covers the other half of the peninsula.
