The Pembrokeshire Coast Path runs 186 miles from Amroth to St Dogmaels, and the whole point of staying on it rather than near it is that the day's walk starts at the front door and ends at the pub. Two ways to use it. A base — one cottage for a week, walking a different stretch each day using the coastal buses to get back — suits families and anyone who wants their own bed. The best bases sit where the path passes through a village with a bus stop: St Davids, Solva, Newport, Dale, Broad Haven, Manorbier. Linear walking — a different bed each night — means B&Bs, hostels and pubs with rooms every twelve to fifteen miles; our B&B list and hostels list are grouped by town for exactly that, with the YHA houses at Poppit, St Davids, Broad Haven and Manorbier as the fixed points.
The stretches worth a base. St Davids Head to Whitesands and Whitesands to Solva for the classic north-west; Stack Rocks to St Govan's and the Stackpole loop for the south; the Marloes peninsula and Dale to St Ann's Head for the west; Newport to Fishguard and Ceibwr to Newport for the wild north. Every walk page has its tide times and its nearest stays.
What matters in a Coast Path stay. Somewhere to dry boots and coats. A drying room or a utility. A pub within a mile that serves food in the evening and doesn't mind muddy walkers — we list every pub by village. A dog policy if you're bringing one, because the whole path allows dogs on leads. And an honest distance: "near the Coast Path" on a listing can mean the cliff edge or a two-mile drive, so we quote the provider's figure where they give one.
